Grading Policy

Curl Curl Sports Netball Club Inc Grading Policy

The Policy will ensure that:

1. For grading purposes, every child is treated as an individual club member, irrespective of previous team or grade.

2. Every child has an equal opportunity.

Grading is influenced by the number and ages of players registered with CCSNC. Grading will aim to achieve teams that have a balanced group of players in playing positions and ability levels.

  • Players aged 8 and 9 years playing in the modified, non-competitive competition (Netta) are not graded. Requests to play with friends will be accommodated where possible, depending on overall registrations in that age group. Requests relating to team placement of Netta players need to be in writing at registration stating reasons and will be considered by the committee. Manly Warringah Netball Association rules state that 8yrs and 9yrs Nettas are not to play together.
  • All Junior players aged 10 years – 15 years must attend practical grading day. This is a compulsory requirement of our club. Failure to attend may result in disappointment, as positions in any team will not be held for absent players without prior warning.
  • Senior players will be advised if practical grading is necessary.
  • If a player is unable to attend practical grading, the player or parent/guardian must notify the Secretary prior to grading. Placement into a team for this player will be based upon paper grading.
  • Playing with friends – Juniors. Requests from both players need to be in writing at time of registration stating reasons and will be considered by the committee providing they are of a similar ability. Stronger players always enjoy the challenge of harder, faster competition and do not develop to their potential if graded lower to be kept with a friend.
  • Please bear in mind that netball is a graded, competitive sport after the age of 10 with representative opportunities. We encourage our players to accept their team and make new friends, and once the season starts children usually settle in and enjoy playing netball. The support of parents is greatly encouraged for this to occur smoothly.

GRADING PROCESS

With so many teams it is important that team selections run smoothly and that everyone understands the process. Grading is the process of establishing the number and composition of Curl Curl Sports Netball Club (CCSNC) teams to compete in the Manly Warringah Netball Association (MWNA) competition and which grades/divisions of competition to request for each team.

  • Coach's Evaluation - At the end of the season, each coach provides a report of each player's positions played, ability, attendance at training and games, attitude etc. All reports remain confidential.
  • Individual Player Assessments - During the season, Graders may observe player’s skill levels during games or receive reports from other sources e.g. Representative coaches.  All reports remain confidential.
  • Paper Grading - Prior to practical grading, Graders assess the above reports and place players into teams for the grading session.
  • Practical Grading - Each Practical Grading session shall be watched by at least two (2) Graders.

The Club may invite independent graders from within and beyond the Club to assist the Graders with grading only of age groups 10-17 inclusive, and Senior Grades, if required.

Under the supervision of the Coaching Convenor players presenting for grading shall be formed into teams.

Players shall trial in the 2 positions they nominate, but may be asked to trial in other positions, either to make up a team, or because the Graders would like to see how they perform in those positions.

Where players are asked to fill other positions during grading, they must still have an opportunity to play in their 2 preferred/nominated position/s.

In forming teams, the Graders take into consideration the Coaches’ reports, independent assessment reports, paper grading and play observed at practical grading, player fitness, skills, performance, teamwork and attitude, while keeping in mind that a netball team requires a balance of height, agility and ball skills, as well as defences, centre court and shooters.

PAYMENT OF YOUR REGISTRATION FEE IS ACCEPTANCE OF THE GRADING POLICY.
NO REFUND OF REGISTRATION FEE WILL BE GIVEN AFTER TEAM GRADING IS PUBLISHED.

JUNIOR TEAMS WILL HAVE COACHES APPOINTED AND THE COACH WILL CONTACT PLAYERS/PARENTS TO ORGANISE TRAINING SESSIONS AT A MUTUALLY CONVENIENT TIME SUITABLE TO ALL PARTIES.

APPEALS

Appeals will be heard by a committee made up of the President, the Assistant Secretary, the Coaching Convenor, the Grading Convenor and an experienced independent assessor from within or beyond the Club.

Appeals must be emailed to The Secretary, secretary@curlcurlsportsnetball.asn.au within two (2) working days of the announcement of teams.
All appeals will be considered within two (2) business days of being received, and a decision given within two (2) days.
